Northwest

Special Needs Ministry

The Special Needs Team exists to create meaningful involvement of those with different needs into the community life of Northwest. We do this by emphasizing 5 words: Education – This involves teaching our people about various different needs and how to minister with and to them. Understanding – This involves learning all we can about each individual with a different need. Inclusion – At Northwest this means including everyone in the least restrictive environment possible as far as classes and also including them in all aspects of community life and fellowship. Celebration – This goes beyond toleration and acceptance to truly rejoicing in the God-given uniqueness of each individual. Empowering – This involves equipping and assisting those with different needs to serve alongside with us.desired.”

Our Philosophy

Northwest chooses to not have separate classes or ministries for those with different needs. Instead we seek to combine everyone together because we see each of us as being equally important in God’s eyes. 1 Corinthians 12:17 – 18 reads, “If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired.” Since the Special Needs Ministry is a part of the DNA at Northwest, we do not take the approach of having special classes or a lot of special events for those with different needs. Instead, we seek to incorporate, or mainstream, everyone into the life, services, and activities at Northwest. Know that we are always looking for ways to improve. Please talk with us about any ideas or suggestions you may have.
